Save Jean Klock Park
Lakefront second-home market is cooling off

It's no secret that across the nation there is a major crisis in the
housing industry. It's in the news everyday that home values are
plummeting and home sales are slowing way down. And from what
is being reported it appears there will be no quick recovery, in fact,
it's likely the trend may continue to spiral further downward.

I spoke with one local Realtor who told me that when it comes to the
high end newly constructed homes and the second home market
here that he and others are mopping their brows and wringing their
    hands.

In a Herald Palladium newspaper article, Chikaming Township,
which is also in Berrien County, a former hot spot for second home
buyers, is reporting that developments  are not being built and
unfinished roads and infrastructure is widespread in the Township.
To insure they are not left with the barren land from the cutting of
trees, clearing of home sites, and unfinished infrastructure the
Township is "asking developers to post performance bonds before
they receive final approval of site plans."

If the dunes and natural areas of Jean Klock Park are taken for a golf
course development, and this golf course resort and second-home
residential development does not come to fruition because the
market is just not there, a valuable non-renewable natural resource, a
priceless gift, and 90 year old historical landmark will have been
    destroyed for nothing.
