Our Purpose:
The purpose of Friends of Jean Klock Park is to protect, maintain, and
enhance the existing natural resource of Jean Klock Park, and to
promote its use as a public beach and park for the children and
citizens of Benton Harbor, MI, and surrounding communities, as was
the intent of John and Carrie Klock when they gifted the Park to the
City of Benton Harbor on May 4, 1917.

    Our Mission:
To preserve the existing natural resource of Jean Klock Park and
promote its use for future generations, forever.

    Our Vision:
That Jean Klock Park will be seen as an oasis of undisturbed natural
land, and use, and to educate the public of the importance of
preserving the park's environment, but also of the long term benefits
to the health and welfare of all humankind when valuable natural
    resources are left undisturbed.

On June 27, 2006 the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Growth
certified the Friends of Jean Klock Park as a Nonprofit Corporation.

The Friends of Jean Klock Park do not oppose the Harbor Shores proposal and
whole-heartedly agree that the City of Benton Harbor needs major change to
revitalize its tax base. We want the City of Benton Harbor to flourish and thrive
again; however, we feel strongly that can be accomplished without using any Jean
    Klock Park property.

Friends of Jean Klock Park would like to see the entire park preserved and used
as an outdoor classroom for area school children and the community. Such a use
would draw tourists to a growing list of eco-tourism locations throughout the state.

We feel the City of Benton Harbor and surrounding communities can have the
diversity of both a championship golf course AND an incredible natural asset for
the growing eco-tourism industry by preserving Jean Klock Park. Tourism depends
on many factors and that type of diversity is a WIN-WIN combination!

The Friends of Jean Klock Park include all and everyone who is opposed to
further encroachment of Jean Klock Park. We believe that through the
collaborative effort of public participation we can preserve Jean Klock Park and
restore its use as a local, regional and world class tourist destination.
